Tech
1. Detroit
Lions- Michael Oher (OT) Mississippi The Lions need to improve their offensive line
before they can go anywhere. They have some talent at the skill
positions with Calvin Johnson and Kevin Smith, but that won’t matter
unless they have a legit left tackle as well. Oher is a superb
all-round OT prospect, and well worth this pick.
2. Oakland Raiders- Andre Smith
(OT) Alabama JaMarcus
deserves someone better than Kwame Harris protecting his blindside.
Enter Andre Smith. He has been amazing this year for Alabama, and
should be a lock for the top 5 picks. He is an outstanding run
blocker who is also very good in pass protection, and he has the
athleticism to play in multiple schemes.
3. Cincinnati Bengals- Eugene Monroe (OT)
Virginia The Bengals
need to upgrade at Left Tackle, so they make it 3 OTs in the first
three picks here. They have the talent on offense with Palmer, Housh
and Ocho Cinco, they just need an offensive line to lay the
platform.
4. Kansas City Chiefs- George Selvie (DE) South
Florida I have Selvie as my #1 prospect for this draft,
so getting him at #4 is pretty good for the Chiefs. They need a stud
pass rusher across from Tamba Hali, and Selvie is a great fit to
provide that. He has been banged up a lot this year, but when given
the opportunity, he has shown his class. If you’re in doubt of his
talent, look at him during his sophomore season.
5. St Louis Rams- Aaron Curry (LB) Wake Forest
St Louis really needs help on the offensive line, but
with the top 3 OT prospects gone here, they look to the defense. The
Rams need an upgrade in their LB corps, and Curry can provide that
at any one of the three LB spots. The best LB prospect since A.J.
Hawk, Curry should go around this
spot.
6. Cleveland Browns-
Brian Orakpo (DE/OLB) Texas The Browns need an upgrade of the pass rush, so they add
Orakpo to the LB corps across from Kamerion Wimbley. The Texas DE
has been outstanding this season, and is also a potential workout
warrior to boot. In the mold of Vernon Gholston from last
year.
7. Seattle
Seahawks- Michael Crabtree (WR) Texas Tech Seattle have been decimated in the WR corps this
year, and although they will have some guys coming back from injury,
WR is still a need. Crabtree is a guy who may well be measured
around 6-2, 210 at the combine and run a 4.5, but there are some
prospects who are beyond measurables. Crabtree has shown on the
field as a mere freshman and now a sophomore, how dominant a
receiver he is. He is a man amongst boys in the NCAA.
.
8. Houston Texans-
Duke Robinson (OG/OT) Oklahoma Duke has been the second best lineman in the
NCAA this year (behind Andre Smith), and will warrant a top 15
pick... for me, a top 10 pick as well. Houston could do with
strengthening their OL, and they can do that with Robinson. He can
play either guard or tackle, and will find a way to help out this
team on the up.
9. San
Francisco 49ers- Michael Johnson (DE/OLB) Georgia Tech
The 49ers are near the bottom of the league in sacks
this year, and that needs to improve. Johnson is a bit of a reach
here, but he has a lot of upside, and could provide a big boost for
San Francisco’s defense. 10. New Orleans Saints- Sean Weatherspoon (OLB)
Missouri The Saints really are in need of help at OLB
right now. A combination of Shanle and Fujita isn’t really all that
scary to opposing OC’s. With Curry gone, Weatherspoon is the best
available OLB here, and slots in from day one at WILL in New
Orleans.
11. Minnesota Vikings- Josh Freeman (QB) Kansas
State Freeman is my #1
QB in this class, and although he is a bit of a reach here, it is
necessary for the Vikings to get their new QB of the future. I see a
lot of Ben Roethlisberger in him, and he should go in a similar area
with a good combine workout.
12. Jacksonville Jaguars- Ciron Black (OT)
Louisiana State The Jaguars need to do some re-tooling
on the offensive line, and a great way to do that is to add a
franchise LT like Black to their team.
13. Green Bay Packers- Jason Smith (OT) Baylor
An excellent fit for the ZBS, Smith is likely to rise
as the draft draws nearer. The Packers snag him here to help out
their offensive line, which is in real need of improvement for next
season. Clifton and Tauscher have both gone downhill, so a new
franchise LT is needed- Smith will be that
guy. 14. Buffalo Bills- Jermaine Gresham (TE) Oklahoma
The Bills need a legitimate tight end,
and Gresham is just that. Big, fast, great hands, good blocking
ability... the Oklahoma TE has it all. Trent Edwards says thank
you.
15. Miami Dolphins- Vontae Davis (CB) Illinois
The Dolphins’ secondary is pretty damn bad right now...
they have no choice but to dip into this great CB class here. Davis
has a huge amount of upside, and will contribute straight away for
Miami, a team on the rise.
16. San Diego Chargers- William Moore (S)
Missouri Moore is the
#1 safety in this class, a good fit at either SS or FS. The Chargers
have Eric Weddle at one safety spot, but could do with an upgrade
alongside him. Moore and Weddle will form a very good combination in
the defensive backfield.
17. Denver Broncos- Brandon Spikes (ILB)
Florida Niko
Koutovides? Nate Webster? This is who’s starting at ILB for the
Broncos? Ouch. They really need an upgrade at linebacker, and they
get that with Spikes. He is a guy who is great against both the run
and the pass, and will bring a substantial improvement for the
Broncos’ defense.
18. Chicago Bears- Taylor Mays (S) Southern
California The Bears need a centerfielder, and Mays
excels in college playing that role. He doesn’t make a lot of plays,
but he isn’t asked to. He is also a guy who has excellent physical
abilities, and a good deal of upside.
19. Baltimore Ravens- Malcolm Jenkins (CB) Ohio
State Talk about a
steal. The Ravens need a stud CB prospect like Jenkins like Michael
Bay needs a lesson in storyline development.
20. New England Patriots- Everette Brown (DE/OLB)
Florida State The
Patriots are getting younger at linebacker, and that continues here.
They have a stud inside in Mayo, and Brown gives them an excellent
outside pass rusher to pair with Shawn
Crable.
21. New
York Jets- Chris Wells (RB) Ohio State Very much BPA
here. Wells is an outstanding back, who is easily my #1 in this
class, and who should come out this year despite having some injury
problems. Although they have been running the ball well this year,
Thomas Jones is on the wrong side of 30, and won’t be getting any
better. Wells will be able to seamlessly take over the starting RB
role.
22. Atlanta
Falcons- Patrick Chung (S) Oregon There aren’t any NTs or RTs if value here for
the Falcons, so they go with an upgrade at safety in Chung. He is a
leader in Oregon’s secondary, and a consistent player who will be
able to step in straight away and
contribute.
23. Detroit Lions (f/DAL)- Mike Mickens (CB)
Cincinnati The Lions need an upgrade for their average
CB corps, and Mickens is great value here. He has the ability to
play in multiple defensive schemes, and will be the future #1 corner
for Detroit.
24. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Darrius Heyward-Bey (WR)
Maryland The Buccaneers need a speedy playmaker like
Heyward-Bey at WR to help out whoever Gruden decides to go with as
the QB of the future.
25. Arizona Cardinals- Alex Mack (C) California
Offensive line is an issue for the Cardinals, and
really has to be addressed come April. Center is a particular
trouble spot, where Lyle Sendlein can definitely be replaced. Mack
is an excellent center prospect, and will fit in nicely in the
middle of Arizona’s line.
26. Pittsburgh Steelers- Dallas Reynolds (OL)
Brigham Young The Steelers need Offensive Line help,
and I’d be surprised if they look anywhere other than the trenches
in April. Reynolds is a guy I am really high on... he is very
versatile, and has a great all-round skillset. He can play a number
of different positions in a number of different schemes, and will be
able to slot in at OT and protect their investment in Big
Ben.
27. Washington Redskins- Tyson Jackson (DE)
Louisiana State The Redskins are struggling to get to
the QB, so they need to look at a DE here. Jackson is more potential
than production right now, but he is a guy with a strong build and
great athleticism, who will be able to get to the
QB.
28. Philadelphia Eagles (f/CAR)- Mark Herzlich (LB)
Boston College Watching the Eagles against the Giants,
I couldn’t help noticing that their LBs are really nothing special.
They could do with an upgrade at any of the three spots, especially
with a guy like Herlzlich. He is a tackling machine and a very
underrated linebacker, a guy who can probably play all three LB
spots.
29. New York Giants- Eric Norwood (LB) South
Carolina LB is an area in which the Giants could do
with an upgrade, or some added depth. Norwood can play all three
linebacker positions, as well as DE from time to time. He doesn’t
get much attention, but he has the skillset to be a first round LB,
for sure.
30. Tennessee Titans- Kenny Britt (WR) Rutgers
Vince Young needs a legitimate target to throw to, and
he gets that in a great value pick with Britt. He is an excellent
prospect physically, and has the production in college to back it
up. He may need a bit of polishing in the NFL, but he is a guy who
could turn out to be an outstanding NFL
WR.
31. Indianapolis Colts- Vance Walker (DT) Georgia
Tech The Colts’ run defense issues have re-surfaced,
and with the loss of Pitcock and Johnson, they are in need of some
help at DT. Vance Walker is my #1 DT in this class, and is a perfect
fit for the Colts’ system. He is smaller and quicker, but is also
strong and powerful for his size, and will help out against both the
pass and the run.
32. Philadelphia Eagles- Brandon Pettigrew (TE) Oklahoma
State Philly has
Curtis and Jackson at WR, but are in need of a big possession
receiver for Donovan to work with. Pettigrew will be a big upgrade
over L.J. Smith, both as a pass catcher and a blocker. Great value
here.
